I really didn't need to install this on the winch cable, but since my son is now handling the cable more to include winding it in after a pull, I wanted to add a little extra precaution just in case something went wrong. I picked this up for cheap off of Amazon, but it had good ratings and came in multipule color options. We had to get yellow (and black set) to match the Jeep, and I was tempted to mix match the halve, but got overrulled and went straight yellow.

I was actually pretty impressed with the packaging for the cable stoppers. Instructions and information on the box. Each cable stopper came inside of it's own bag and they even provided the allen wrench to remove the bolts from the cable stoppers. The nice thing is you can even mismatch the halves of the cable stoppers.
Installation:
1. Use the provided allen wrench to remove the screws from the nuts. I left the screws in the one half and let the nuts fall out of the other side on the table.
2. Separate the two halves by pulling them apart at the split. I had to wiggle the halves apart because the screws are a tight fit in the halves.
3. The stopper has a flat side and an indented side. The indented side goes towards the winch hook.
4. Pull enough slack on the winch cable to install the two halves over the cable. Install the nuts while turning the screws in with the allen wrench. Takes a little coordination.
5. You can position the stop up by the winch cable, or back by the fairlead when not in use. The winch stop does move freely on the steel cable, but would be tight on the synthetic cable do to it being a larger diameter.
